Identifying And Treating Dog Constipation
Just like you, your dog can have a hard time with his bowel movements
but unlike you he can’t run out to the pharmacy for relief. Dog
constipation is typically caused by improper diet and / or lack of
exercise. So it stands to reason that if you don’t want your dog
to suffer by being constipated you want to feed him the right foods and
make sure he gets a walk every day.
If, however, you don’t does become constipated you might try
adding a couple of teaspoons of bran to his food. You want to watch the
dosage though because you want added to much which might cause him to
have an accident. Brion is a good source of fiber, so just like in
people it will add bulk to the stool and help him pass it
Another thing you might try is to add psyllium, or Metamucil which has
the main ingredient of psyllium to his water. Don’t give them the
full dose for a personnel tried just a half a teaspoon but make sure
you drink lots of water along with it. You have to be cute with this
though, because when you mix the Metamucil in with his water it
doesn’t take long for it to comp op so we’ll have to drink
it right away or he could choke.
Another thing to try is adding mineral oil into his food.
Also, be sure you don’t get plenty of water and you might want to
switch to canned food to make sure he’s getting a lot of moisture
which will make his stool softer. You want to also be sure to take note
of what he’s eating. Most dogs will eat whatever is in front of
them and you want to be sure that he’s not eating a lot of foods
that will make him constipated
If you notice that dog constipation is becoming a big problem with your
pet, you might want to take him to the vet to try to diagnose what is
wrong. In some cases it could be a very serious problem which you want
to take care of right away
